ELDERLY CLIENT SERVICES

Older Client Services

Ageing is an inevitable process, but it is one with benefits too.  You have the time to write that book you always wanted to. You can go away on that holiday of a lifetime.  You get to see the grandchildren grow and develop.

With years of experience and built-up wisdom behind you, you are someone who deserves respect from society and anyone you have entrusted to deal with your legal matters.

Respect is central to everything our Leeds older client services team does.  Being based in Leeds, we are in an ideal position to provide a convenient service to older clients and their families.  We tailor our services to the needs of each client, and arrange home visits where necessary.

As I get older, what becomes more legally relevant to me?

Even if you are in great physical shape now (and we hope you remain that way for many years to come), one day you might not be well enough to deal with your legal affairs.  Instead of leaving it to chance, it is advisable to appoint a Legal Power of Attorney (LPA) to take care of your legal and financial affairs should the unfortunate happen.  There are two types of LPA:

  • Personal Welfare – these LPAs are able to make decisions relating to your general wellbeing, care and health should you lose the mental capacity to make those decisions.
  • Property and Affairs – these LPAs are able to make decisions relating to your property, assets and general financial affairs.

We can help you decide what the most appropriate LPA for you might be by fully informing you of the possible outcomes of your decision.

Your will = your will

Over 50% of people in the UK have not made a will.  And that does not take into account what percentage of those are not legally valid.  More and more people are choosing to use DIY will kits in the mistaken belief that this route will save them and their family time, money and effort.   However, if you get it wrong, doing it yourself is false economy.

By creating a will, you are making sure that your assets are going to the ones you care about; helping to preempt family disputes and avoiding or lessening the inheritance tax your assets will be subject to. Leeds solicitors will ensure that your will is legally valid; suggest ways to help you save taxes; advise you on how your grandchildren can fully benefit from your estate (the sum total of your assets), and make sure you understand the legal consequences of any decisions you choose to make.
